This course has been designed to build an awareness of the condition by providing an understanding of genetics, behaviour and how best to support someone with Down’s Syndrome.

This childcare training course will be delivered by a variety of teaching methods including: presentations,  case studies, small group discussion, and whole group discussion.

The syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Explore statistics and myths about Autism
  • Define what is meant by term autism
  • Identify the difference between Autism and  Asperger Syndrome
  • Explore the Triad of Impairment
  • Identify characteristics of people with autism
  • Explore how autism impacts upon behaviour
  • Identify strategies to work with people with autism
