This Paediatric Manual Handling training course has been designed especially for staff working with the children in various settings such as nurseries, hospitals, residential and community settings, where the moving and handling of children and young people is part of the daily routine.

The course contains definitions on manual handling, the types of injuries you can receive due to incorrect practice, and basic anatomy of the spine and muscles within the body. Factors which contribute to safer handling and good base movement are also covered. The Paediatric Manual Handling training course looks into different hoists and swings and will discuss their uses, limitations and correct ways to apply them. This module is valid for 12 months and all staff have annual refreshers with certificates issued on successful completion.

  • Manual handling responsibilities under the current legislation inc Children’s Act, MCA, LOLER, MHOR/MHSW& New CSP guidance
  • How manual handling responsibilities are affected by internal and external factors
  • The use of ergonomic principles in assessing risk factors that contribute to musculoskeletal disorders
  • Person centered care planning
  • The importance of record keeping in line with the care plan
  • Legal & therapy issues of manual handling
  • Human movement and the use of REBA (Rapid entire body assessment)
  • The use & understanding of equipments in people handling
  • Problem-solving methods of moving and handling children
