This Epilepsy Awareness training course is aimed at those working with or responsible for the welfare and well being of individuals with epilepsy.

Training will facilitate best practice guidelines and ensure that all attending will have the skills and knowledge to provide a safe, effective environment for people with epilepsy.

The syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Definition of and facts about epilepsy
  • Classification and management of seizures
  • Ethical and legal responsibilities
  • Triggers and precipitants
  • Person centred care planning and recording
  • Epilepsy, mortality and SUDEP
  • Impact of rescue medication and anti-epileptic drug therapy
  • Emergency care plan and when to call an ambulance
  • Risk assessment and promotion of safeguarding and dignity
  • Access to local and national support network
