This Promoting Independence in Personal Care training course is open to all Healthcare Professionals and will cover all aspects of promoting independence in personal care.

This heathcare training course will be delivered by a variety of teaching methods including: presentation; case studies; small group discussions & individual work.

Course Summary

The syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Understanding the priciples for supporting independence
  • The 12 activities of Daily Living
  • The importance of listening & supporting people to have positive control
  • Understanding the different cultural needs of service users
  • The individuals rights when receiving personal care support
  • How do we maintain privacy and dignity with: maintaining safe environments; communicating; breathing; eating and drinking; eliminating; personal cleansing and dressing; catheter care; pressure area care; controlling body temperature; mobilizing; working and playing; expressing sexuality; sleeping; end of life care.
