This Sharps Awareness course is designed to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of the risks involved when working with sharps.

The training provides a comprehensive introduction to the issues surrounding sharps management and highlights working practices employed to prevent injury and infection. By the end of this Sharps Awareness course attendees should be able to recognise the legal duties of the employee and employer, state the procedures for accident reporting according to RIDDOR guidelines, recognise different blood borne infectious diseases and good practice in preventing injury. What to do in the event of a sharps injury. To state the procedures for dealing with the use and disposal of sharps and state the correct way to deal with clinical and general waste.

  • Blood borne viruses
  • Reporting of injuries and dangerous occurrences
  • The treatment of sharps injuries
  • Sharps disposal and waste management
