This Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Awareness course is designed to develop your awareness and understanding of CBT at in introductory level and will explore basic applications of cognitive behavioural therapy in working practice.

This course will be delivered by a variety of teaching methods including: brief inputs, discussion, small and large group activities and role-plays. The participants will be encouraged to make use of examples from their work and this will be done in keeping with strict confidentiality and anonymity of service users.

The syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Basic principles and theory and the theoretical background behind CBT
  • Introduction to key concepts (automatic thoughts, conditional and core beliefs)
  • Understand how thoughts affect the way we feel
  • Basic tools and techniques of CBT
  • Application to common mental health problems and maladaptive cognitive processes
  • Case studies and illustrations
