This Introduction to Sexuality and Learning Disabilities course is designed for all personnel who are employed within the health and social care profession supporting individuals with learning disabilities.

The course introduces methods to support individuals with their sex and sexuality care requirements.

Course Summary

The syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Supporting individuals in matters related to sex and sexuality under current legislations and the law
  • What is consent?? Understanding the law and making reference to the mental capacity act around relationships
  • The levels of communication needed to support individuals
  • Ensure that you provide an environment that promotes equality
  • How we can support individuals to be comfortable with their sexuality
  • People with learning disabilities becoming parents
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse and know how to deal with suspicions
  • Recognise potential additional resources to support sex education for individuals
