During this course delegates will learn what PICA is, how to support individuals who exhibit PICA and provide safe environments for them.

Throughout this PICA Awareness training course, the facilitator will employ a range of methods including brief inputs, discussion, small and large group activities and role-plays. The participants will be encouraged to make use of examples from their work and this will be done in keeping with strict confidentiality and anonymity of service users.

  • The signs and symptoms of Pica
  • What causes Pica?
  • Associated risks
  • Required supervision levels
  • What can be done to manage Pica in different settings
  • Structured activities to promote engagement and preventative measures
  • Emergency plan
  • Record keeping and documentation
