The aim of this mental health orientated self harm & wound management course is to inform healthcare professionals on effective wound care protocols in relation to self harm, in order to ensure optimal care and recovery.

By the end of the session each candidate will have a greater understanding of what constitutes as self harm and the potential reasons behind this behaviour, in addition to wound types and the appropriate techniques to manage them effectively.

The syllabus covers such topics as:

  • The terminology of wound care
  • What is self harm?
  • Recognising the causes and signs of self harm
  • The risk factors contributing to skin impairment
  • The parameters of wound assessment including staging of wounds
  • Different wound types and tissues
  • Care planning considerations and the selection of appropriate interventions
