Course information

Aseptic technique training is crucial for nurses and care staff because it ensures the prevention of infection during medical procedures, thereby safeguarding patient health. This is especially vital in clinical settings where patients are vulnerable, as infections can lead to severe complications, prolonged hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs.

Mastering aseptic techniques enhances the overall quality of care, promotes patient safety, and aligns with regulatory standards, reinforcing the professionalism and competence of the healthcare team.

This clinical training course covers such topics as:

  • Defining the term “aseptic technique”

  • Identifying when an AT should be used

  • Explaining why there are variations in AT procedures

  • Stating the potential sources of microbial contamination

  • Identifying non-aseptic steps and how to maintain asepsis

  • Relevant legislation and guidance
  • Competency framework

Please note: A competency framework is included in this training. Competency is achieved in the workplace following the training. Each procedure needs to be signed off by a qualified, senior member of staff. The completed document can then be used to identify the individuals’ competence.
