Course information

This Assessment Skills course aims to enhance your understanding and application of the Common Assessment Framework (CAF), a vital tool for assessing the needs of children and young people. This childcare training course will also enable participants to identify where intervention may need to take place and complete action when it needs to be taken.

The learning outcome of this training will be to be able to look at the assessment framework and be able to analyse and reach an outcome focused plan. The course covers such topics as:

  • What is a caf/family assessment
  • When should we carry out an assessment
  • Who should be involved in the assessment process
  • The process of the assessment
  • The stages of intervention that may take place during the process
  • The legal implications of the caf/core assessment process
  • The process/action to be taken when assessment is not working

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs. A full day option provides the opportunity for all delegates to participate in a practical workstation.

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
