Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Level 1 training - formerly known as Asperger Syndrome Awareness - is designed to provide foundational knowledge and understanding of ASD, with a particular focus on individuals who present with Level 1 autism. Ideal for anyone working directly or indirectly with autistic individuals, this course helps build understanding, confidence, and inclusive practice when supporting neurodivergent people.

The training aims to increase awareness, promote empathy, and enhance practical skills for supporting individuals with ASD in a range of settings. Participants will explore core characteristics of level 1 autism (formerly associated with Asperger’s Syndrome), understand diagnostic criteria, and learn effective communication strategies. The skills and knowledge highlighted in this training include:

  • What is ASD level 1 and how is it defined?

  • The history of research into ASD level 1

  • The causes and diagnosis

  • The effects of ASD level 1

  • Techniques for living with ASD level 1

  • Issues for adolescents and young adults with ASD level 1

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs. A full day option provides the opportunity for all delegates to participate in a practical workstation.

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
