Care of Medicine
Care of medicine training – also refered to as Medication administration Level 1 – provides care professionals with essential knowledge of safe medication support in health and social care settings. Covering legislation, responsibilities, prescriptions, medication storage, disposal, common medicines and side effects, this course helps care workers understand their role and support individuals safely while promoting dignity, independence and person-centred care.
Course information
Safe management of medicines is an important part of providing effective, person-centred care. This course provides care workers with an understanding of medication and their responsibilities when supporting individuals in health and social care settings. Delegates will explore the three levels of medication care, including general support, medication administration and specialist techniques, alongside prescriptions, receiving and checking medicines, safe storage and disposal.
The course also covers common medication types and potential side effects and reactions. Particular emphasis is placed on following organisational policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality, respecting dignity and independence, and recognising when further training or support is required. This is a theory-based course and workplace competency assessment is required where appropriate.
