Course information

Cerebral Palsy is the name for a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement and co-ordination. It’s caused by a problem with the brain that develops before, during or soon after birth. Understanding the complexities of Cerebral Palsy, including its physical, cognitive, and emotional impacts, enables caregivers to tailor interventions, communicate effectively, manage symptoms, and prevent complications.

As a result of attending this training session, delegates will have a greater understanding of the causes and symptoms of this condition in addition to the testing & diagnosis procedure. Attendees will also feel more competent in looking after people with Cerebral Palsy in respect to risk factors, choice and decision making. The course syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Introduction to Cerebral Palsy
  • Giving people with Cerebral Palsy choices
  • Helping people with Cerebral Palsy achieve a sense of community presence or share ordinary places
  • Helping people with Cerebral Palsy maintain dignity and respect
  • Helping people with Cerebral Palsy develop skills or competence
  • Helping people with Cerebral Palsy grow in relationships

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs.

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
