Course information

Dementia awareness training is crucial for healthcare workers, care staff, and nurses because it equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective and compassionate care to individuals with dementia. Understanding the symptoms, behaviors, and challenges of dementia enables staff to communicate better, manage difficult situations, and ensure the safety and dignity of patients.

The aims of this mental health training course are to enable attendees to define the term ‘dementia’ and recognise the main signs, symptoms and causes, and to understand the meaning of a person centred approach to dementia care. The course covers such topics as:

  • Understanding dementia
  • Common types of dementia
  • Causes and symptoms

  • Person centred care and care planning

  • Equality and diversity in dementia
  • Recognise and help prevent abuse
