Course information

This training course enables delegates to support and help individuals change patterns of behaviour. Delegates will explore various methods of dialectical behavioural therapy in working practice.

The Dialectical Behavioural Therapy training will be delivered by a variety of teaching methods including: brief inputs, discussion, small and large group activities and role-plays. The participants will be encouraged to make use of examples from their work and this will be done in keeping with strict confidentiality and anonymity of service users. The course syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Understand how thoughts affect the way we feel
  • Understand the concept of dialectics
  • Understand and apply the importance of mindfulness in practice
  • Use dialectics to resolve emotional conflicts and dilemmas
  • Assess unhelpful ways of thinking
  • Understand triggers which link to reactive states of mind and behaviour
  • Know how to challenge dysfunctional thinking using various processes
  • Successfully deal with behavioural relapses
  • Discover how to reduce obsessive – compulsive thoughts
  • Increase your assertive behaviour
  • Recognise the value of being non-judgemental

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs. 

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
