This Dysphagia training session supports nutrition and hydration in health and social care, with the course syllabus covering topics such as:

  • Define the term dysphagia and associated terminology

  • The normal swallow process and how this can be impaired

  • The signs, symptoms and causes of Dysphagia

  • The role of Speech and Language Therapy Team (SALT)

  • Understanding the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI)

  • Management assessments for Dysphagia such as for malnutrition and aspiration

  • How to manage a choking incident

  • Preparing and checking food and fluid to the correct IDDSI level

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
