This Loss and Bereavement training course provides participants with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of loss, including understanding the emotional responses of those affected and effective communication strategies to provide compassionate support. By fostering a deeper awareness of the bereavement process, the training empowers staff to create a safe space for individuals to express their feelings, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided during these challenging times.

  • Effect of bereavement on an individual
  • Grief, emotions & the importance of communication
  • Principles of supporting individuals who are bereaved
  • The grief wheel (Life function, Shock, Protest, disorganisation, reorganisation)
  • Normal grief and complicated grief
  • Absent grief, delayed grief, inhibited grief, unbalanced grief, chronic grief
  • Accepting the loss, feeling the pain, adjusting & letting go
  • The roles of specialist agencies in supporting individuals who are bereaved
  • Qualities and skills needed to help & managing own feelings when providing support for individuals who are bereaved

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs. 

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
