Course information

This Palliative Care training course is particularly applicable for those working in residential care settings, hospices, and community healthcare, as well as family caregivers. It is designed for healthcare professionals new to this field- or as a refresher. This course should be viewed as an overview, as palliative care is a diverse topic with many factors dependent to the patients specific needs.

The training will allow participants to discuss their own feelings/experiences of dealing with a life limiting illness. The course covers such topics as:

  • Guidelines for providing end of life care

  • Advanced care planning requirements

  • Effective communication skills

  • Recognising a person is approaching end of life

  • Where to access support for family, carers and the individual

  • Managing and dealing with their own feelings/staff support

  • Awareness of symptoms in the last days of life and the management principles for these

  • Awareness of tools and resources available to assist the facilitation effective end of life care provision

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs. 

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
