Course information

This training course is applicable to all care settings, including nursing homes, domiciliary care, and assisted living facilities. Participants will learn about the symptoms, progression, and daily challenges associated with Parkinson's, as well as best practices for providing person-centered care, managing medication, and promoting independence.

Participants will identify the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, gain an understanding of its causes and examine the most effective ways of caring for people living with the disease. This mental health training course aims to promote and share models of good practice in care by addressing the challenges experienced by people with Parkinson’s in relation to mobility, swallowing, communication and other activities of daily living, increasing empathy between the carer and the cared for. The course covers such topics as:

  • Addressing the challenges of Parkinson’s Disease

  • Applying a person-centered approach to caring and support
  • Guidelines for activities of daily living
  • Preventing instances of hitting, biting and wandering
  • Meaningful activity and variety in everyday life
  • Improving the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s and their carers
  • Mental Capacity ACT application

This course can be delivered to a maximum of 15 delegates and can be tailored to meet your organisation's specific needs. 

This course can be delivered via Zoom or MS Teams to a maximum of 20 delegates. Virtual sessions are most commonly used as refresher training sessions. Please note that there is no hands-on practical element in this training; practical elements are displayed using video examples.
