This course is designed for Healthcare professionals to understand the myths commonly associated with personality disorder.

This course is designed to provide you with a proper understanding of personality disorder, and a clear and systematic sequence of steps to consistently deliver successful interventions. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, attendees will learn to recognise the signs of personality disorders,  and promote a safe, empathetic care environment. The course syllabus covers such topics as:

  • What is personality and personality type?

  • What is a personality disorder?

  • General criteria to diagnose a personality disorder

  • Specific criteria – clusters A, B and C

  • Common causes of personality disorders generally, specifically BPD/EUPD

  • Childhood trauma and ACE’s

  • Very specific criteria

  • The challenges of working with a person diagnosed with a personality disorder

  • Most evidence-based treatment for personality disorders - DBT

  • Somatic therapies that can be used to assist with emotional regulation

  • Mindfulness for both the service user and the staff
