Course information

This Self Harm and Suicide Awareness training is applicable for anyone working in a care setting, including support workers and mental health professionals, who may encounter vulnerable individuals struggling with emotional distress. The course focuses on identifying warning signs, understanding risk factors, and providing appropriate support and intervention, fostering a safe and compassionate environment for those at risk.

  • Experiences and circumstances that can lead to self-harm and suicidal tendencies
  • Dispel some of the myths and reinforce facts
  • Distractions, avoidance techniques and interventions

  • Effects of self-harm to individual and staff
  • Anger management and self-affirmation
  • Helping and approaching distressed individuals (an action plan)
  • Risk assessment and re-enforcing the importance of communication
  • Resources, help and advice
